DEALER-FEE IMPACT

Turn every extra into its real cost.

A fee added to the loan is not only a line item. It can collect tax and interest while hiding inside the payment.

REVIEW BEFORE SIGNING

This calculator measures cost; it does not determine whether a charge is legal, mandatory, or competitive. Rules and tax treatment vary by location.

How to challenge unclear charges

Ask for a buyer's order

Get the full out-the-door quote with every fee and product listed before discussing the payment.

Name each add-on

Ask what it covers, its standalone price, whether it is optional, and where you agreed to buy it.

Recalculate the loan

When something is removed, verify that both the amount financed and monthly payment decrease.

Common questions

Are dealer add-ons required?

Many products—such as service contracts, etching, protection packages, and some GAP products—are optional. Ask for written prices and decline anything you do not want.

Why do financed dealer fees cost more?

If the charge is included in the amount financed, interest may be charged on it throughout the loan. If it is taxable, sales tax can increase its impact too.

Does a high fee automatically mean the deal is bad?

No single number proves that. Compare the complete out-the-door price with other written quotes and verify which charges are government fees versus dealer charges.

Consumer reference: the FTC advises buyers to know the total cost, get every charge in writing, and question add-ons they did not request.
